SAM JONES III
Pete Ross on the WB's "Smallville"

Having been in Hollywood only a few years, Sam Jones III is already making quite a name for himself. He recently completed leading roles in two feature films, Zigzag and Snipes, as well as having guest-starred in several television series. His role as Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) best friend Pete in the new action-adventure drama Smallville marks his series-starring debut.

Growing up in Boston, Mass., Jones acted in local commercials. After spending a summer vacation with a friend living in Los Angeles, he caught the showbiz bug and decided to pursue a career in acting. Soon after he graduated from high school, Jones moved to Hollywood to follow his dream.

His first job was a memorable guest-starring role on NYPD Blue in which he portrayed a troubled teen who stole a gun and hid it in his daughter's crib. From there, his career began to grow. His credits include an emotionally charged recurring role on C.S.I. in which he played a teen who accidentally killed a girl and then watched as his grandfather attempted to take the blame. He also guest-starred on Judging Amy as a sexually abused teen who gets mixed up in a drive-by shooting. Jones will appear in two episodes of the new R.L. Stine series The Nightmare Room, beginning this fall on Kids' WB!

On the big screen, Jones is poised to make an auspicious debut. In the gritty independent drama Zigzag, he plays the autistic 15-year-old title character opposite Wesley Snipes as his crack-addicted father. The film also stars Oliver Platt, Natasha Lyonne and John Leguizamo as his terminally ill mentor. Jones also stars in the upcoming independent crime drama Snipes, playing opposite rapper Nelly and Dean Winters (Oz).

When he is not working, Jones spends his time on the basketball court. He currently lives in Los Angeles and will be relocating to Vancouver for the filming of Smallville.

Name Game: "My nickname is Poncho. I've had it ever since I was a baby. If someone calls me Poncho, that's how I can tell they really know me. If they call me Sam, then I know they just know me from TV."

Magic Act: "I always wanted to be an actor, a magician or an NBA player. As you can see from my size [5' 7"], I couldn't very well make it in the NBA. As far as being a magician, I'm still into it. I do tricks for the cast. The stuff that I like to do is sleight of hand, making quarters disappear, card tricks, stuff like that."

The Way to Sam's Heart ... Is Through His Stomach: "The one thing I miss most about Boston is my mom's cooking. Mmm. That's what you call soul food."

I Am Completely Obsessed With: "Pitbulls. I left one behind in Los Angeles to go work on Smallville in Canada, and I also left a couple behind in Boston before I came to California. They're small like me, but then they have a lot of power. That's why I like them. They're also loyal. They're always there for me."

Sam would most like Pete to: "Have more air time. I want to meet his family and explore his background. I would also like him to hang out with Clark more because then he'd go on more, fun adventures."

Mr. Popular: "People recognize me a lot now and ask for autographs and pictures. They always have positive things to say."

Superman's biggest fan: "I was definitely into Superman growing up. That's why it's such an honor to be on this show. Smallville will probably go down in history one way or another. It's cool to be involved with it."

The big finale: "You're going to find out more about where Clark came from. His biological parents get involved and something crazy happens. The [season] finale is gonna be a big mind-boggler, I'll tell you that, but that's it."
